New Parents

Being a new parent can be incredible and joyful - and it can also be very stressful and overwhelming.

Many pregnant women and new moms find it quite helpful to talk with a therapist who understands the unique issues of motherhood.

It’s a major life change that demands so much of you. Are you getting the support you need?

While welcoming new baby, some moms may experience post-partum adjustment/depression symptoms such as these:

  • Overwhelm or feelings of going through the motions
  • Tearfulness, deep sadness, low mood, intense vulnerability
  • Feeling inadequate or having unexpected feelings
  • Doubts, resentment, emptiness or not feeling “bonded”
  • Being caught up in comparisons with other mothers
  • Thoughts of escape, harming your bay or running away
  • Lack of focus, can’t quiet your mind
  • Fears that if you say how you feel, others will judge you

The lack of sleep and rest that early parenting often brings can make any of these symptoms more extreme.

You love your baby, you want to enjoy your time together - yet these strong feelings might be making that pretty difficult.

Counseling Can Help.

As a therapist experienced in working with new moms, I understand that post-partum is a vital period.  When moms feel better, babies can thrive.

We’ll take a careful look at important factors such as your personal history, hormone/body changes, your baby’s health/temperament and the support you have or may need - which all can impact any post-partum symptoms you may be having.  We may work with your physician or family members where that's needed.  We'll consider the many decisions you're making now that you have a little one, and the pressures and excitement of this unique time.  Let’s sit down, talk about it and get you what you need so you can enjoy this early time with your child.
